Why does it look good?

Excellent looking Hospital Patient Tray (a 10)

  • Everything is divided up so that the tray looks organized, balanced, attractive and inviting.
  • All the side dishes are very small.  This is good.  There's no room for 6" bread and butter plates on this small tray.
  • The condiments are all placed in a clear container.  Now the customer can find them.
  • The dessert is simple and garnished.
  • The fresh fruit has a green leaf liner.  It's showbiz.
  • The coffee mug is in the perfect location.
  • The roll has a doily under it.  Good, but if you can find a 4", or very small bread and butter plate, it would look even better.  But the plate has to be small.  Minimize or delete pies on small trays because they require a bread and butter plate which normally takes a lot of tray space.
  • The soup is in the correct location.  You'll be surprised to know that this is a 4 oz. insulated bowl as opposed to the larger version.  Do we get away with the smaller portion?  Yes!  It isn't even noticed in average hospitals who serve primarily seniors.  Seniors don't want a lot of food.  In fact, they complain that we give them too much food.
  • The flatware is on the right.  Good!
  • Bottom line - this tray scores a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.  Way to go Donna Young, R.D. and team at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City Iowa.
  • If you're thinking that you could never do this at your facility, think again.  It's being done all over the country - just look at the testimonials on this website.  How do we do it?  With a concept called Destination 10.  Come to the ASHFSA preconference to learn exactly how to use this new Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
